Bay Area Homeless Alliance Information & Referral
About this Search Facility

This search facility was developed by the BAHA project so that potential clients, counselors and the general public could find out about social services available in the region being served. The Bay Area Homeless Alliance (BAHA) is made up of social service agencies in the nine county region of the San Francisco Bay Area. The nine counties are: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma.

The search pages are programmed with Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML) and JavaScript. The server is a state-of-the-art computer running Microsoft NT Server and its Web server IIS components. The server-side programming is done with ASP (Active Server Pages) and VBScript. All agency data are retrieved dynamically from a MS Access database. The data is updated quarterly from input supplied by the responsible hub agencies in the nine counties.

The search pages are best viewed with a 800 x 600 screen. The BAHA Web page displayed on your computer's screen will depend on the following characteristics specific to your computer : the physical size of your monitor screen (14", 15", 17", etc.); the color resolution and memory size of the video card (e.g., 16 bit, 256 colors, etc.); the setting of the monitor (brightness, color mix, etc.); the resolution setting of the monitor screen (800 x 600, etc.) and how your browser renders the HTML and graphics in the pages.

The BAHA programs have been tested to work correctly with the most popular Web browsers, namely, Netscape 3.0, Internet Explorer 3.0 and America Online 3.0. To best view the BAHA Web site, your computer should support these versions of the browsers as a minimum requirement because they have features which know how to process or render fancy things like JavaScript. If your current browser does not have JavaScript capabilities because it is an earlier version of the above named browsers, you can download for free.
